Episode #27: ...living in the United States. And by 2030, an estimated 56 million Baby Boomers will be ages 66 to 84. WOW!
This week, the "Living Smaller & Loving It!" blog post takes a quick look at the aging population and downsizing, and you'll also discover some highlights from my new how-to downsize book, "RELAX you're going to do great!", publishing in late September.
A Few Fun Senior Facts:
Did you know there are approximately 270,000 seniors aged 65-84 in the Greater Kansas City Metro?
Did you know there are approximately 37,450 seniors aged 85+ in the Kansas City area?
Did you know the Greater Kansas City Metro has 120 + senior living communities—Independent, Assisted, and Memory Care? In addition, there are approximately sixty 55+ designated senior apartments and subsidized housing communities available in the area. All of these communities are listed geographically on our SENIOR LIVING in KANSAS CITY page. Stop by if you're considering a move!
Did you know 8,000 Baby Boomers in the United States are turning 65 every day?
Did you know there are already 55,000 Americans over age 100, and by 2050 the number of centenarians will reach 600,000?
As the population ages, many older adults will begin thinking about downsizing, whether they plan to move or age in place. Deciding to downsize doesn't come easily and, in most cases, responds to life changes—health, income, marital status, or a desire for a simpler lifestyle, to name a few.
Accepting change can be difficult later in life, especially when it involves hard decisions and physical and mental effort. The right mindset plays an enormous role in successful downsizing because change is never easy. But downsizing is an achievable, life-changing choice that can bring meaningful rewards in the end. A reminder: downsizing takes time, and it's never too early to begin the process.
Publishing late September 2026!

"Downsizing is about making life more manageable. It's about assessing what's most important, editing, and eliminating the unimportant. It's living a smaller, more enjoyable life and loving the outcome." -Cindy Murphy, Downsizing Simplified
