Episode #26: Am I capable? A B S O L U T E L Y you are!
This week, our "Living Smaller & Loving It!" blog post revisits and updates our October 2025 post. Early in my career, I realized my clients would make little, if any, progress unless they truly wanted to live a simplified lifestyle through downsizing. They needed a strong desire.
That desire led them to a decision, and then to a commitment to that decision. But it couldn't stop there. They needed to believe in their capabilities in order to achieve their ultimate downsizing goal.
Yes, there is a method to the often-downsizing madness, and it all begins with a desire to live smaller and love it! Here are a few excerpts from my new book, "Relax, you're going to do great!", publishing in September 2026.

The Right Mindset Plays an Enormous Role in Successful Downsizing.
Although there are many steps involved in downsizing, the process can be overwhelming and often messy at times; cultivating the right mindset can not only get you started on your journey but also carry you through to the end.
"Do not take on more than you can comfortably manage, especially in the beginning. Be kind to yourself."
A Desire for Change.
Without a desire for change, you usually won't move forward. You've got to see the vision, understand the value, and pursue the change.
"The desire for true change ignites a new mindset and builds worthwhile momentum."
The VISION.
Considering where you are now and what you'd like your future to be in 3-5 years, take time to define your vision. Write it down.
What is my new lifestyle vision?
Why is it important to me?
How and where do I see myself living?
Is my vision worth pursuing?
"A doable journey begins with determination and a clear focus."
The Pros and Cons of Downsizing.
Weighing the considerations and possibilities, both positive and negative, is crucial to making the right downsizing decision. Take your time and make a list...it shouldn't be a quick undertaking.
Making the Decision and Committing to it.
Committing to your decision doesn't necessarily mean you will plow through the steps of the downsizing process. In fact, most people do not have the capacity to do that, and that's okay. Life events, health, and stamina play a big role in how quickly you move.
You'll be certain to face many challenges along the way, some of which may make you want to give up. Revisit your Vision and your Pros and Cons list to validate your path.
Believing and Achieving.
A key component of downsizing success is believing in yourself and your capabilities, staying focused, and maintaining momentum. Recognize your progress toward your goals, even in small steps. Victories matter, no matter the size!
"Downsizing a lifestyle is generally not a cakewalk for most people, but believing in yourself and your ability to conquer your clutter depends on your belief that you are capable — you are the BOSS!"
In an upcoming blog post, we'll be sharing more of the book's content, so be sure to subscribe so you won't miss out. If you'd like to reserve a copy, please visit the CONTACT page. This book will be published as an e-book and a hard copy (print-on-demand).
This how-to downsizing guide is perfect for those in the considering stage or those ready to begin their journey; it thoroughly covers the process from start to finish.

"Downsizing is about making life more manageable. It's about assessing what's most important, editing, and eliminating the unimportant. It's living a smaller, more enjoyable life and loving the outcome." -Cindy Murphy, Downsizing Simplified
