When Downsizing, Allowing Plenty of Time and Thorough Planning Makes Locating Your Perfect New Home Easier.

We help our customers simplify the often time consuming and challenging task of locating their ideal new home such as within a retirement or assisted living community. We are informed service providers and have personally met with management staffs, gathered information, and toured a great many of the wonderful communities in the Greater Kansas City area.

With so many choices available today, we encourage our customers to take their time in making this important move decision whenever possible. Planning ahead is a key component in any successful move and is especially important in a downsizing move.

Of course cost and affordability are probably number one on everyone’s list when they begin looking for a home, but in addition to those, we've compiled some general questions that may come in handy before you start your search. (Please keep in mind, these questions are random in nature and apply to different types of home-search scenarios.)

• Within a retirement community setting, what on-site services and amenities are most important to you?

• Is having everything on the same floor important (no more steps)? What about maintenance-free living?

• If you’re still working, is an easy commute important?

• Is maintaining a certain level of privacy an issue, especially if you’re thinking about a move to a large retirement community?

• Does close proximity to public transportation matter to you?

• Is quick access to health care professionals and hospitals high on your list?

• Is retail shopping convenience a must?

• If you enjoy cultural events such as theatre, music performances, and art galleries, is closeness to these venues a big consideration?

• Is it important for you to keep close connections to the community you’ll be moving from (church or synagogue, volunteer work, beautician or barber, family, friends, etc.)?

• Are pets welcome in the new community? Are there any restrictions?

• Is storage, such as ample closet space, important?

• Does the community have designated transportation available for shopping, medical appointments, or outside entertainment?

• If you drive, is covered parking on the top of your list?

• Is the view from your new apartment important? What about easy access to the outdoors?

What we’ve tried to illustrate with this sample list of questions is the importance of thinking about and then writing down everything that truly matters to you when considering a downsizing move.

Present and future health-related concerns will also play a major part in your move decision. Of course no one can know their exact future health needs, but careful examination of the available services within or through a community can help you make more informed decisions.

In addition to answering questions and providing general information about communities, we can also set-up appointments and assist customers on tours of communities in a non-medical capacity. The "tour assist" part of our service is very helpful to those who don’t drive or do not have family members or friends available. We provide an informed, friendly, and impartial professional service that can help narrow down the available choices.

If you’ve made the decision to downsize, we encourage you to start planning and to “Dream BIG!” Don’t be afraid to think out-of-the-box as plans can always be tweaked and adjusted if needed down the road. And once again, what matters most is that you take into consideration everything that’s important to you!
